Hotel Grand Joanne Hotel Review

Copenhagen, Denmark
mid-scale Hotel
Deluxe Room | # 1405

"A magnificently beautiful, newly restored 1800s building in the heart of Vesterbro, Copenhagen. Kindness transcends the entire house and circulates from Grand Joanne into Vesterbro towards passionate, kind people – traveling or just looking for a place to hang out." - Joanne

Quick Tip

Skip the breakfast package & grab a hot dog from John's Hot dog deli near the train station.

Bottom Line

What we loved

  • Good location close to Copenhagen Central Station & Tivoli Gardens. There are plenty of shops and restaurants within 5 minutes in any direction.

  • The gym is large and has lots of equipment, albeit it is in the windowless basement.

  • Friendly staff that spoke English well.

  • You can text them via Whatsapp & they respond quickly.

  • The included breakfast was good with a variety of items during our 2-night stay.

What we did not like

  • There were misses with small touches in the room: a robe but no slippers, a kettle but no coffee machine. The bathroom has toothbrushes but no wash cloths.

  • Room does not have a useable fridge. We were able store some items in the fridge behind the front desk.

  • Two elevator system to get to the room with luggage. The 2nd elevator is small & can only accommodate 1 person with luggage.

  • Room is expensive and the view is the inner workings of the hotel where staff is taking out trash & laundry.

  • Water temperate system is weird. The sink faucet only has 1 knob and you have to turn it all the way to the left to get hot water, same for the shower.

  • The bathroom is small, with a shallow sink resulting in water splashing everywhere.

  • Bathroom does not have any counter space.

  • Long hallway in the room is unusable space.

Verdict

Hotel Grand Joanne is a good base for exploring Copenhagen close to Copenhagen Central Station & Tivoli Gardens. Our two-night stay was pricey (5.422 DKK) and while the room was spacious, it had a small bathroom & view of hotel's trash. If I stayed here again in the future, I would book the Deluxe room (again) for a lower rate (under 2.000 DKK per night) without the breakfast option as there are many restaurants within walking distance.
